EXPERIENCE A TRUE
COLLEGE TOWN DOWNTOWN

At Georgia State, the energy of Atlanta meets a vibrant academic and social environment. GSU is transforming downtown into a dynamic college town with the creation of our new Panther Quad and the innovative GSU Blue Line — a 3.7-mile walking path connecting key campus spaces. Bringing life to the campus with greenspaces and social hubs, GSU makes you feel at home in the heart of the city.

CAMPUS LIFE

At Georgia State University, your well-being is as important as your academic success. We’ve prioritized creating a safe and supportive space where students can thrive physically, mentally and socially. Our accredited Georgia State Police Department safeguards our campus 24/7 with patrols by foot, bicycle and car, and our Campus Ambassadors assist as safety escorts and help guide students securely across campus. We recently launched a $3 million safety campaign to enhance campus security infrastructure. This includes AI-equipped lighting, expanded surveillance, smart technologies and state-of-the-art safety features. Students also benefit from the free LiveSafe mobile app, which provides real-time safety alerts.

At our downtown campus, you will grow, learn and enjoy unparalleled access to major attractions, industries and city opportunities in a secure and vibrant environment.

“My most recent research project focused on how socially anxious individuals are emotionally affected by competitive environments. I found that social anxiety had no significant effect on emotional distress or motivation, revealing just how complex it truly is.”

MILITARY OUTREACH

Georgia State welcomes military-connected students, supporting them through special outreach programs designed to meet the unique needs and challenges of today’s military community. Each of our six campuses features its own Military Outreach Center. The centers maintain information about campus and community resources, plus local veteran support services. They also work to connect and foster camaraderie between military and veteran students.

Safety

Patrolling our buildings, parks and streets by foot, bicycle and car, the Georgia State Police Department works to safeguard the university at all times. As of April 2022, the department is led by Chief Anthony Coleman, who has proudly served the university for more than 30 years.

Take comfort in the fact that campus is filled with precautionary monitoring systems, including 24/7 safety escorts, housing and building patrols, vehicle assists, emergency call boxes and an emergency alert system that keeps you in the know and can be downloaded to your phone. Georgia State complies with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Crime Statistics Act (the “Clery Act”).

Park your car at select residence halls, decks and lots around campus. Or rent a bike from Panther Bikes to ride around downtown.
