The Widest Variety of Academic Offerings in the State

“My most recent research project focused on how socially anxious individuals are emotionally affected by competitive environments. I found that social anxiety had no significant effect on emotional distress or motivation, revealing just how complex it truly is.”

— Lola Adeniyi (’25)

STUDENT SUCCESS

WE'LL BE WITH YOU
EVERY STEP OF THE WAY

College is one of the most important investments you’ll make, and we don’t take that lightly. We’ll invest in you equally.

When you commit to Georgia State, we commit to guide and support you every single day — from before First-Year Convocation to after graduation. Our novel approach has made us the national model for student success.

Our family of 52,000 students is among the most diverse in the country. And thanks to our work their futures are equally bright. We are proud to be the only institution in the country that has eliminated the achievement gap among students based on race, ethnicity, and income.

THESTATEWAY® puts you in a cap and gown and on the path to a prosperous career as soon as possible. On average, we save our students a collective $21 million in unnecessary tuition and nearly a semester in unnecessary coursework on the road to a degree.

PERSONALIZED ADVISEMENT

We work to craft the most efficient academic path for you as soon as you enroll. Through the University Advisement Center, you’ll be assigned your own academic adviser, who will work with you one on one to find your perfect major and help you register for the courses you need and want. With them, you’ll develop your own personal success plan, highlighting your interests and strengths and helping you skip unnecessary coursework on the road to your degree. Eligible students can access additional customized support through TRIO Student Support Services.

DATA-BASED TECHNOLOGY

We call on digital tools to keep you on track to graduation. Our Graduation Progression Success system monitors your daily academic progress and initiates assistance if/when you need it. Our Early-Alert system tells us if you’re struggling within the first few weeks of the semester so we can jump in with proactive solutions (like referrals for tutoring or visiting the Student Financial Management Center to explore your options). Meanwhile, our Pounce chatbot answers any questions you have (about critical things like enrollment or registration barriers you may be facing) at the drop of a text, so you never get stalled.

ACADEMIC ASSISTANCE

We’ve analyzed and adapted to our students’ unique academic experiences. Supplemental Instruction pairs students taking historically difficult courses with those who excelled in them. Adaptive Learning Courseware changes the format of challenging, large introductory lectures to smaller instructor-guided labs. Success Workshops tackle frequently requested topics, like essay-writing, goal setting and test-taking. Student Success Coaching assigns personal coaches to students experiencing academic distress. And the Learning and Tutoring Center offers free tutoring across all departments.

FIRST-YEAR PROGRAMS

We believe starting off on solid footing is key. Our Freshman Learning Communities match small groups of first-year students with similar academic interests to build support networks from the outset.  Success Academy invites students to arrive on campus early to get a head start on the college transition. And the Panther Gateway Program invites students to ease into their educational journey by utilizing positive academic habits through peer mentoring, supplemental instruction and individualized guidance.

Financial Support

We never want money to derail your journey. If you’re relying on the HOPE Scholarship to fund your education but your grades slip and you lose it, the Keep HOPE Alive Scholarship will help you get back on track to regain it. If you’re facing personal challenges and struggling to pay your tuition, our Panther Retention Grant program and Emergency Assistance Fund can provide the financial aid you need. Through the Scholarship Resource Center, we can also help you search and apply for scholarships.

A STRATEGY WORTH REPLICATING

Having experienced the most dramatic increase in graduation rates of any university in the country since 2003, we’ve garnered widespread praise for our innovative and successful approach to elevating student achievement. We were also tasked with establishing our own National Institute for Student Success, offering a model for other universities to adopt.

Andrew Gumbel book cover.
“This model of student success couldn’t be more timely as Americans facing an economy devastated by rising wealth inequality and a once-in-a-century pandemic look once again to education—a quality but moderately priced education—to better their fortunes.”
— Andrew Gumbel, award-winning investigative journalist, political columnist, author
