For students like Erica McGuire, who pivoted to homeschooling her daughter during the COVID-19 pandemic, the flexibility of remote learning allowed her to keep studying while prioritizing the needs of her family.

ERICA MCGUIRE
(A.S. ’21)
A single mom to a 9-year-old, Erica McGuire (A.S. ’21) balanced parenting with pursuing her associate degree from Perimeter College. While it was no easy feat, the convenience of taking courses remotely, online especially when the COVID-19 pandemic forced her to homeschool her daughter made McGuire’s college dreams possible. Now the fourth in her family to graduate from Georgia State, McGuire has transitioned to the Atlanta Campus to earn a bachelor’s degree in her field, criminal justice.
