WAYS TO DISCOVER
As the largest public research university in Georgia, we are proving our way leads to life- and world-changing discoveries.
Our labs and research centers are at the forefront, racing the clock to develop vaccines for viruses, examining the ways families cope following natural disasters, analyzing stock market anomalies and locating long-lost stars in the Milky Way.

You’ll also get the chance to reach for prestigious scholarships and attend or share your research at national conferences.
University Assistantships

“My most recent research project focused
on how socially anxious individuals
are emotionally affected by competitive
environments. I found that social anxiety
had no significant effect on emotional
distress or motivation, revealing
just how complex it truly is.”

JADE KANG Beckman Scholar ('25)
Hands-On
Honors College student Jade Kang, a biology major with a biochemistry concentration, was among two Georgia State students named to the Beckman Scholars Program for 2022. Through the program, Kang will engage in a 15-month mentored research experience. She’ll join Professor Anne Murphy, director of Graduate Studies of the Neuroscience Institute, in the institute’s Murphy Lab, examining the perigestational effects of opioid exposure in rats. This work combines Kang’s interests in studying the effects of aging and working with people with addiction.
